Research on the Identification of Key Core Technologies of Artificial Intelligence and International Competitive Landscape from the Perspective of Patents

Abstract:In the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation,artificial intelligence(AI),as a leading technology and a strategic competitive focus,is profoundly reshaping the global innovation landscape.Accurately identifying key core technologies in AI and assessing its international competitive landscape is crucial for clarifying China's industrial position and formulating a scientific development path.This study constructs a“triple funnel”screening model to systematically identify eight key core technology areas based on global patent data,and analyzes the international competitive landscape in the new era of large-scale and generative AI development.The study finds that global AI competition presents a pattern of bipolar dominance by China and the US,while complemented by specialized collaboration from a number of other countries.China has developed a trend characterized by“quantity dominance-quality rise”in key areas such as neural networks and pattern recognition,leading the world in patent scale.The US maintains a high-value patent advantage in foundational-layer technologies such as knowledge representation and reasoning methods,continuing to lead in original innovation.Looking to the future,China needs to build a tiered and categorized technology breakthrough system,strengthen the cultivation and international layout of high-value patents,and deepen the integration of industry,academia,and research and the construction of an innovation ecosystem to promote a paradigm shift in the AI industry from“scale-driven”to“quality-led,”thereby enhancing its voice in global AI rule-making and technological competition.
