The Impact and Spatial Spillover Effects of Digital Economy Empowering World-Class Talent Centers and Innovation Hubs

Abstract:The impact of digital economy on the development of world-class talent centers and innovation hubs has become increasingly significant. Its rapid integration with traditional industries has profoundly transformed modes of production and operation in society and the economy,injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of these talent centers and innovation hubs. Starting from the core elements of the digital economy,this paper deconstructs the empowerment of world-class talent centers and innovation hubs through digital economy into three processes of penetration,and constructs a corresponding indicator evaluation system. Based on a sample of 106 countries recognized globally as world-class talent centers and innovation hubs,the study employs a spatial econometric model to empirically examine how the digital economy empowers and influences these regions. Research findings indicate that digital economy not only exerts a significant positive effect on local world-class talent centers and innovation hubs but also demonstrates a notable spatial spillover effect. Ignoring this spatial spillover would lead to an underestimation of the overall impact of digital economy. Further analysis reveals that the influence and spatial spillover effects of digital economy are particularly pronounced in North America,Asia,Europe,and Africa. Additionally,the study finds that compared to low-income countries,the empowering effect of digital economy is more prominent in high-income,upper-middle-income,and lower-middle-income countries. Based on these findings,the study proposes several strategies,including improving the supporting system of digital economy to better build world-class talent centers and innovation hubs;implementing region-specific digital strategies to reduce regional disparities;and advancing tiered policy measures in the digital economy to bridge developmental gaps among these key regions.
