Abstract:In the context of widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI),how entrepreneurial orientation affects firm performance is a critical question to be explored.Based on the resource-based view (RBV)and dynamic capability theory (DCT),this study constructed a logical axis of “resource-behavior-capability-performance”and investigated 175 entrepreneurial firms that have applied AI,aiming to explore the effects of entrepreneurial orientation on firm performance through a chained dual-pathway model.The findings reveal the followings:①Entrepreneurial orientation positively enhances firm performance.②AI adoption partially mediates the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance.③Both automation capability and augmentation capability also serve as partial mediating roles between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance.④Entrepreneurial orientation can improve automation capabilities or augmentation capabilities by AI adoption,thereby boosting firm performance.Moreover,after entrepreneurial orientation drives AI adoption in firms,the augmentation capability pathway proves more effective than automation capability pathway in enhancing firm performance.This study expands the theoretical boundaries of resource-based view and dynamic capability theory in AI settings,reveals the transmission of “technology adoption-capability building”,and verifies the strength of augmentation capability path by human-AI collaboration.It provides a novel perspective and empirical basis for understanding the impact of entrepreneurial orientation on firm performance in the era of intelligent technology.
