Abstract An in-depth analysis of the research autonomy of researchers is an important basis for improving and implementing various policies to expand the autonomy of universities and research institutes.Clarifying the boundaries and types of research autonomy is the precondition of regulating researchers' research autonomy.The three restrictions from law to academic norms and then to the particularity of the subject have constructed the boundary of researchers' research autonomy.The types of research autonomy can be divided from the perspective of ontology and carrier,and also from the perspective of duty.To regulate the research autonomy of researchers is the inevitable requirement of historical context.The fundamental method of regulation is to balance the interests of all sides.The specific measures of regulation are to prevent researchers' research behavior from deviance.
