Abstract Innovation is not water without a source.Its occurrence is dependent on specific social conditions.By selecting five specific social conditions including democracy index,per capita GDP,total population,power distance index,and individualism/collectivism index,the paper conducts regression analysis on specific social condition and innovation index to reveal the influence of political,economic,demographic,cultural and other social conditions on innovation.Research shows that the total population has no correlation with innovation,and power distance is negatively related to innovation.The independence of economy and individual has a significant impact on innovation,followed by the degree of political democracy that has a positive correlation with innovation.Therefore,political,economic and cultural reforms are of great significance to enhancing China's innovation capabilities.
