Abstract  Megaprojects are typically complex systems, composed of heterogeneous subprojects with technical difficulty, system relevance, and unknown factors.Megaprojects are affected by various factors such as national and local policies, laws, systems, and culture.Based on several megaproject cases such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, the Shanghai World Expo, and the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, this paper adopts grounded theory as a panoramic qualitative research method to establish megaprojects complexity dimensional model. The results show that the complexity of megaprojects includes organizational complexity, task complexity, technical complexity, environmental complexity, institutional complexity, and social complexity.Besides, there are complex interrelationships among various dimensions, which reflects the endogeneity, emergence, and exogeneity of megaprojects complexity. This research has important theoretical and practical significance for the development of complexity theory, which is suitable for the context of megaprojects in China.
