Measurement and Comparative Study of Industrial Competitive Advantage Based on Patent Value Perspective: A Case Study of 5G Mobile Communication Industry

Abstract:Enhancing the competitive advantage of the 5G industry is crucial for accelerating the development of new quality productive forces and fostering China's independent scientific and technological innovation capabilities.Based on the patent data of China,the United States,Japan and South Korea in the field of 5G technology from 2005 to 2023,this study constructs a three-dimensional model of “technology-economy-law” from the perspective of patent value.Building on this framework,an evaluation system for the 5G industry competitive advantage index is established.The index weights are determined using the analytic hierarchy process and entropy weight method.Subsequently,the composite index method is employed to obtain the 5G industry competitive advantage index for China,the United States,Japan,and South Korea.The results show that from the perspective of the overall index,China surpassed the United States in 2018 to become the country with the largest advantage in the 5G industry.From the perspective of different dimensions,China's competitive advantages in the technical and economic dimensions are relatively prominent,but it is still necessary to further promote the commercialization of 5G technology,accelerate the construction of the 5G application ecosystem,and continuously improve the level of patent protection to obtain sustainable competitive advantages.
