Capacity Utilization of Equipment Manufacturing Industry: Degree and Difference Analysis

Abstract:This paper uses DSBM model to investigate the temporal and spatial evolution of productivity utilization in equipment manufacturing industry.It shows that the utilization ratio is 74.17% in the sample time,and no overcapacity is vitnessed on the whole.Specifically,utilization in the east,middle and west is 76.40%,63.53% and 66.44% respectively,indicating that the east has no overcapacity while the middle and west suffer from serious overcapacity.Evolution of utilization in the equipment manufacturing industry coincides with the macroeconomic trend.There is obvious pro-cyclical characteristics,with the east the most seriously affected by the global financial crisis in 2008,and the midwest significantly declining after the “new normal”.The overall disparity of the utilization in the equipment manufacturing industry mainly owns to the differences among the sub-industries,and its essence is the cross result of regional surplus and industry surplus.
