Abstract：After the international financial crisis in 2008,smarter city is regarded not only as an important area of reinvigorating economy,but also as an innovative way to enhance cities competitiveness and partly solves problems hindering urban development.When many cities in Europe have launched their smarter city initiatives recently,a few problems also occur in different smarter city projects.In this paper,European smarter cities construction cases,especially main points and their specific contents,are analyzed firstly.Some smarter cities construction challenges are summarized based on the above analyses.In order to provide advices to smarter cities in China,this paper finally puts forward five arguments:strategic planning and content designing,limited budget and capital sources,administrative roles and multi-participator relations,public participation and vulnerable groups,and attention on green and sustainability.
