Abstract This paper explores the interagency coordination experiences behind the recent U.S.federal R&D initiatives.On the basis of the study on the inter-sector coordination problems of China's National S&T Major Project,the paper concludes efficient coordination now requires the improvement of relevant institutions and mechanisms,including solid leadership from state council,as well as full use of financial control authority and monitoring and evaluation for government's inter-sector collaboration
