Abstract This paper explored the relationship among network structure,exploitative /exploratory innovation and innovation performance.It also examined the moderating effect of family control in the relationship between political network and exploitative/exploratory innovation by using the data of family firms in Zhejiang and Chongqing.The results show as follows:Network centrality,political network intensity positively impact exploitative/exploratory innovation;network density positively impacts exploratory innovation;firm network intensity positively impacts exploitative innovation;family control negatively moderates the relationship between political network intensity and exploitative/exploratory innovation,and the higher effect of family control on the relationship between political network intensity and exploitative/exploratory innovation at low degree of market area;exploitative/exploratory innovation completely mediates the relationship between network centrality,political network intensity and innovation performance
