Abstract This paper compares the industrial structure transfer capability,speed and direction of China s five central cities by using the factor analysis method.There are significant differences on industrial structure transformation ability between the five central cities,and the main factors are the technological innovation capability,demand and supply and the foreign trade level.Chongqing s industrial structure transfer ability is slightly lower than the national level and far less than Beijing,Tianjin,Shanghai and Guangzhou which are in the eastern region of China,but Chongqing have huge potential,for the conversion speed is very fast and is developing along the reasonable and advanced direction
