Abstract This paper takes the Institute for Advanced Study(IAS)in Princeton as a case,and obtains the academic papers through literature method and Scopus database since its foundation in 1930.The paper analyzes the key indicators such as the paper type,affiliation,research field,the number of authors,cooperative institutions,cooperation nations and average cited frequency.It concludes three characteristics:the high volume of production,significant research influence and diversification of academic fields.Meanwhile,three modes of open cooperation of IAS are also explored,which aims to form the enlightenment for China to establish the worldwide top research institutes in the future,such as encouraging cross-team,inter-agency and multinational collaboration
