R&D Growth Performance Differential in Manufacturing across China's Provinces:A Shift-share Analysis |

Abstract Based on the statistical data from the National R&D Resources Survey in 2000 and 2009,the driving forces of the R& D growth performance differential in manufacturing among China's 30 provinces are analysed by shift-share analysis.The main findings are that the competitive effects are the major driving force for the R&D growth performance differential in the manufacturing across China's provinces.As a result,this paper explores the policy implications of the main findings with the particular emphasis on the importance of improving innovation system in most provinces.
