How Does Service Industry Opening Affect Manufacturing Industry GVC Upgrading |

Abstract From the perspective of service elements entering manufacturing production process to promote manufacturing servitization,there are usually two channels for expanding the opening up of the service industry.One is to expand the opening up of the service industry,foreign service factors enter the manufacturing industry directly as intermediate inputs,the other is that the opening up of the service industry will reversely stimulate the development of the domestic service industry,which in turn promoted the entry of local service elements into the manufacturing process.What kind of role the above two approaches to achieve the servicization of the manufacturing industry will have on the global value chain(GVC)of the manufacturing industry needs further theoretical discussion and empirical analysis.Based on the revision of traditional theories and the formation of hypotheses to be tested,the empirical test results using China's empirical data show that expanding the opening up of the service industry as a whole helps to enhance the status of the division of labor in the manufacturing industry's value chain.The opposite effect.Specifically,the servicization of the manufacturing industry realized by relying on the input of foreign service elements is not conducive to the rise of the manufacturing value chain,while the servicization of the manufacturing industry realized by relying on the input of local service elements will promote the rise of the manufacturing industry in the global value chain.The above-mentioned research findings have obvious policy implications for how to rely on the expansion of the service industry to optimize the path for the manufacturing industry to climb the global value chain.
